2014 July Pow Wow, Moomers, & Interlochen

During the Cherry Festival, they had a Pow-Wow (Ojibwa Indians).  The little ones of course were the hit of the Pow-Wow.

Tall ship sailing on Lake Michigan out of Traverse City.

Moomers was named best ice cream store in the USA by Good Morning America.  It's just a small family-owned operation.  They have their own dairy cows, but have to also buy other local milk.

The owners are a mother and her two grown children.  One of the owners is scooping ice cream.
We have to agree with GMA.  It was excellent.
We toured the Interlochen School of Music and Arts just south of Traverse City.  It's for high school students.  Josh Groban and Nora Roberts both attended school here.
We had a very wet tour.  Our guide was a college-age alum.  He certainly was enthusiastic about the school.
Sound proof practice rooms.  The students can go into these rooms and practice anytime.
Below:  House of Music museum in Acme, Michigan northeast of Traverse City.  Our tour guide demonstrated several player pianos and organs including this huge organ.

The gold-plated piano below cost $10,000 back in the 1930's.  They played a 4-handed Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue (actually recorded by Gershwin).  I just loved listening to it.
